a message from the superintendent

BSD Community,

It has been a month since I started as superintendent at Bloomfield and teachers and students have been in school for two weeks.  I am enjoying getting to know the staff, students, parents, and community.  It is very apparent that Bloomfield cares about one another and its school.  Thank you for welcoming me and being patient with the learning curve that is present with moving into a new community and starting a new job.  I am working hard, learning a lot, and my family is adjusting well.

It is great to see students and teachers in the school building in a traditional setting and it is interesting developing the remote setting in conjunction.  Our teachers have been troopers working hard to figure out how to combine the remote world with the traditional classroom.  There have been some technology issues at times, but I have seen teamwork amongst the staff to help resolve some of the issues.  Our goal is to continue to become better at delivering quality instruction in all formats that are provided.

COVID-19 definitely has made this year unique and challenging.  Overall, our COVID precautions are going well.  Students and staff are doing a good job with wearing masks and we have continually tried to improve our seating arrangements for social distancing, schedules to limit social gathering, and cleaning of all areas.  It has been challenging following health guidelines when students and/or staff have had COVID symptoms or have been in direct contact with someone that is infected.  When and for how long should one quarantine, when to isolate, when do I keep my kids home, and for how long are all legitimate questions that many times depend on the circumstance.  To help our community with these decisions, we have included COVID tabs on our school websites that can be used to answer some of these questions.   To help reduce the many questions through emails and phone calls, please read through the links and documents provided in these tabs when you have COVID related questions.  If the documents/links do not answer your questions, please email or call the school with your concerns and/or questions.

If you have not already, consider taking advantage of our new before and after school program created to provide support for all students.  Click here for the link to the parent handbook.  This program is a great way to get extra support and enrichment for your child.

Thank you for your support and commitment to Bloomfield as we seek to provide educational excellence!

Bloomfield School District,
I am excited and honored to be a Bloomfield Cardinal!  As your new superintendent, I commit to serving and leading the Bloomfield School District with integrity, diligence, and honor and respect for all stakeholders (teachers, staff, students, parents, and the community).  I am bringing 22 years of educational experience to Bloomfield: 8 years in the classroom and 14 years in administration.  Each position, place, and person that I have worked with has taught me and prepared me for what I am entrusted to provide for Bloomfield.  I will also be bringing my family of 7: my wife of 25 years, Cathy, and my 5 children, Calyssa (20 years old), Trey (18), Tytus (12), Christiana (10), and Charis (10).
This is a unique time in our history.  The Bloomfield administrative team and nurse, along with state and local health officials, are working together to develop appropriate plans for school to start on Tuesday, August 11.  Our currently posted COVID-19 re-entry plan below has been approved by health officials.  This plan is fluid and may be adjusted before school starts based on state mandates, recommendations from health officials, and our observations and experiences once school begins.  Dr. McCormick, Governor Holcomb, local health officials, and the Greene County superintendents are meeting this week for the latest COVID-19 updates.  I will communicate any changes for which we are made aware.  Bloomfield is currently in the minimal/moderate spread (yellow) level shown in our re-entry plan.  We will communicate when we change levels.  For more specific COVID-19 questions and/or details about remote learning or the Bloomfield Academy, please call or email your child’s building level principal, our nurse, Renee McIntosh, or me at 812-384-4507 or
Registration has officially begun for this school year.  Please register your student(s) for the 2020-21 school year this week by clicking on Harmony Family Access for K-12 registration or filling out the Enrollment Packet under Little Cardinals PreSchool Enrollment for preschool enrollment.  Please contact your child’s school office staff if you have any questions or problems with registering. Let us make this a great year!
